We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Manager leading our Corporate Reserving teams. Reporting to the Corporate Actuary, the Senior Manager will lead three teams focused on delivering loss reserve estimates and forecasts for injury and material damage claims, developing enhancements to our reserving techniques and capabilities, and supporting our pricing team as well as the Appointed Actuary to deliver their commitments. With the introduction of the new Enhanced Care coverages effective May 1, 2021, the teams are developing methods for estimation and insight over the new coverages, addressing the long-term run-off of remaining injury claims under the old system, and responding to shifting levels of inflation affecting vehicle and repair costs. We are looking for a people leader who has experience managing and motivating a team of actuarial professionals. The Senior Manager will also be a key player in providing meaningful insights to operational partners within ICBC and maintaining alignment with other key analytics groups.
Specific accountabilities include:
Manage a staff of three managers that have three to five actuarial and data science professionals each.
Manage, review, and communicate the quarterly claims forecast analyses.
Support the appointed actuary and external auditors in completion of year-end duties.
Monitor relevant business results, and regularly share insights from actuarial analysis with key partners in claims and insurance business areas.
Provide support for regulatory rate filings.
Ensure that appropriate processes are in place to produce reserving analyses that are of high quality and meet actuarial standards.
Remain up to date on current and emerging actuarial issues and methodologies in P&C reserving.
Work closely with other actuarial teams to continually enhance and improve actuarial methodology and meet the needs of key users of the actuarial results.
Lead performance of direct reports inclusive of providing professional and technical guidance and provide regular performance reviews.
Work collaboratively and share resources with other team managers to ensure the commitments of the department are met.
Position Requirements
The successful candidate will have several years’ related experience and a strong knowledge of actuarial principles and practices. Ability to create a collaborative and positive work environment, build and maintain strong and effective relationships, and effect change from a position of influence are key work attributes for this position. A proven track record of success in coaching and mentorship is required. Experience with automobile insurance or other P&C background is required.
Additional requirements include:
Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS), or equivalent.
At least 10 years of relevant experience, including 4+ years of leading a team.
Superior communication and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate with all levels of leadership at the right level for the audience.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to understand context and its impact on all issues, identify key areas requiring action and successfully execute strategies for resolution.
Willingness to act as a change agent for the organization, demonstrating courage and integrity.
Ability to propose appropriate compromises in the interest of corporate objectives and constraints.
Experience managing and coaching actuarial professionals.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Work arrangements defined:
Hybrid 8 – you will work a minimum of 8 days in a 4-week period at your primary office headquarters (typically 2 days per week). The remaining days will be remote within British Columbia.
