Harford Mutual Insurance is seeking an Actuarial Analyst to support the Actuarial Team by performing essential actuarial functions and serving as an analytics partner with Claims, Compliance, IT, and Underwriting. Under general supervision of our actuary, this individual will bring technical expertise to ensure data quality and accuracy, interpret our data using various data analytical techniques, support the rate review process, assist with building predictive models, and present results to the business.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Develop skills and knowledge necessary to perform actuarial and data analytical tasks.
Manipulate, analyze, and interpret large data sets; identify patterns and trends; review KPI metrics.
Present data-driven recommendations and strategies to Actuarial, Claims, and Underwriting based on analytics and knowledge of data available.
Responsible for completeness and accuracy of rate indications, pricing analyses, and dislocations.
Prepare rate review exhibits, present recommendations to the business, and prepare filing exhibits.
Assist with the building, testing, and deployment of predictive analytic models.
Create new dashboards, tools, and reports for improved data consumption throughout the organization.
Offer suggestions to simplify and streamline the existing tools and data acquisition.
Develop ad hoc analyses from start to finish: conceptualization, data gathering, analysis, presentation, and monitoring.
Performs other duties or special projects as required or as assigned by a supervisor.
Undergraduate or graduate degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field.
At least one entry level actuarial exam passed.
2-5 years Commercial line insurance experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Passionate about data and have a curious mind.
Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills.
Strong programming skills, including Microsoft Excel/Access, R, SQL, VBA or related.
Experience with business intelligence software (Power BI, QlikView, Tableau, or equivalent).
Proven mathematical, analytical, and quantitative skills.
Demonstrated ability to solve problems systematically and creatively.
Effective time management skills; Capability to balance multiple projects with competing deadlines.
Constant attention to detail and takes initiative on projects and assignments.
