IAT Insurance Group has an immediate opening for a Surety Underwriter Trainee in our Avon, Connecticut location, starting in June of 2020. We are seeking recent and upcoming college graduates for our structured program that will consist of Home Office classroom sessions, Field Office training and individual study. This program offers qualified candidates the chance to learn about the insurance business and the opportunity for a successful career in the surety industry.
Upon completion of the training program the candidate will be prepared to:
Perform financial and account analysis of pertinent financial date, authority, and referral requirements for consideration of new, existing, and renewal business.
Set up financial baker/account files.
Request and gather financial information on assigned accounts.
Maintain and request updated information to provide to underwriters for review.
Start the appointment process of new agents.
Handle the servicing of new and existing agents.
Check Bond Log.
Bond renewal preparation and determination on whether bonds should be cancelled.
Maintain Agency relationships and provide exceptional service and support. May have authority to underwrite low value bonds and renewals.
Reconciliation of Agents’ accounting.
Provide general direction to the Bond Underwriting Assistants for bond processing.
Provide quality recommendation to Branch and Home Office Reports on assigned accounts and agents.
Rate and review bonds for premium and classification accuracy.
Ensure accuracy for completeness of files and verify that all necessary documentation is complete in file.
Act as services contact for agencies assigned by the Regional Manager and maintain an ongoing relationship.
Accurately communication knowledge of assigned accounts to Branch and Home Office personnel via written and verbal means.
Prioritize workflow to ensure work is performed in a timely fashion and all deadlines are met.
Perform other duties as necessary.

A four-year college degree (preferably in finance or accounting), or equivalent applicable experience (May 2020 graduates are eligible).
Equivalent is defined as 4 years of applicable insurance industry experience.
Strong verbal and written communications skills.
Must be willing to travel.
Ability to function in a team environment.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Competent computer skills including knowledge of MS Word and Excel.
Open to relocation if required.
Must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship by employer, now or in the future.
*Current IAT employees must have been in their role for at least six months and must have received, at a minimum, a “Meets Expectations” during their performance review to be eligible for the program.
