Leads work efforts of actuarial rate reviews process to include data review, procedures and process. Coordinates the completion of pricing and underwriting evaluations, gathers and analyzes information, presents findings and makes recommendations to management. Helps develop niche programs. Summarizes and documents all specific details regarding APR decisions and communicates to appropriate personnel. Develops the technical information to achieve state insurance department approvals of rate filings. Responds to insurance department filing inquires. Leads and coordinates with other Commercial Lines Product personnel to ensure consistency of state strategies and effectiveness of the strategies for both agents and policyholders.
This position is at the Associate level.
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Business or Economics.
Candidate should have attained Associate membership into the Casualty Actuarial Society, though very strong near-Associates will be considered.
8 - 10 years actuarial experience, with at least 5 of the years spent at a Property & Casualty insurance company.
Strong business acumen, analytical and decision-making skills.
Strong presentation skills, written and verbal communication skills required.
Must possess qualities to lead team technically and also support/ facilitate the team and be action –oriented when business and other issues arise.
Deals effectively with detail, but keeps “big picture” perspective.
Ability to plan, organize and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously; creates unique solutions to complex problems, and effectively communicates technical concepts to non-technicians, is desired.
Must interface well outside of the Pricing group – with Product, Finance, IT, State Filings, Claims.
Advanced computer skills, including proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Access.
Data access skills via SQL / SAS and interest /experience in applying predictive or financial models is preferred.
