Ball State University’s Department of Mathematical Sciences is seeking applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position as the Dr. John A. Beekman Distinguished Professor of Actuarial Science, beginning August 14, 2020. Specific duties as a faculty member include teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, scholarship in actuarial science, student advising, and professional service. The Distinguished Professor will also be expected to provide exemplary leadership and outreach for the department’s highly successful actuarial program, maintain and develop industry contacts, and adequately prepare graduates for membership in the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) or Society of Actuaries (SOA). The length of the probationary period, normally seven years, may be reduced for the exceptional candidate.

Minimum qualifications: Fellow of CAS or SOA and Master’s degree (or higher) with at least 18 graduate credit hours related to actuarial science OR Associate of CAS or SOA and Ph.D. in a mathematical science from an accredited institution. Five or more years of experience in actuarial science acquired in either an academic or corporate environment. Demonstrated capacity for high-quality scholarship (as evidenced through at least one presentation or publication related to actuarial science).

Preferred qualifications: Previous experience as a teacher in an academic or professional development setting. Refereed publications in actuarial science. Currently active in the CAS, SOA, or American Academy of Actuaries with demonstrated relevant leadership ability. Ten or more years of experience in actuarial science acquired in either an academic or corporate environment. Evidence of contacts with multiple companies who employ actuaries.
