Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI), has a newly created position that will bring their data analytics and insurance strategy to the next level for SGI CANADA. SGI is seeking a highly experienced, results-oriented and data driven Executive Vice President and Chief Insurance Officer (EVP). Positioned out of Regina, the incumbent will work closely with the Executive team and report to the President and Chief Executive Officer. This individual will be responsible for the strategic direction of SGI CANADA including underwriting, pricing and product as well as the strategic direction for claims in both SGI CANADA and the Saskatchewan Auto Fund. Using data as a resource to drive business decisions you will be a data savvy, strategic leader with a demonstrated history of being a strong insurance technical expert.
You will bring to this position significant executive experience in a multi-services organization and an advanced degree in business, mathematics, applied science or a related discipline complemented with an insurance or actuarial designation. You will have a demonstrated insurance history of analyzing and identifying market trends, product line responsibility, streamlining and enhancing efficiencies in systems and processes. This individual will be tasked with developing a strong leadership culture and implementing innovative but cost-effective approaches to the delivery of services. You will have a strong understanding and knowledge of the principles and practices of public and private insurance, pricing, claims and underwriting procedures for property and casualty insurance products. You will have excellent oral, written and presentation communication skills, political and financial acumen and the ability to articulate and communicate a vision while leading the timely and successful execution of strategies.

You will need either a Master’s degree from an accredited post-secondary education institution in a relevant field of study (Business or Mathematics and Applied Science) plus a CIP or FCIP designation OR a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited post-secondary education institution in a relevant field of study plus a Fellowship of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) and the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (FCIA).
The ideal candidate must have at least 20 years of relevant experience in the insurance industry, including at least 13 years of progressive challenging leadership experience are considered a great asset.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of the insurance industry and competitors’ products in all applicable regions as well as applicable legislation and regulations.
Understanding of organizational units and how they interact to achieve corporate objectives.
Knowledge of how accounting/financial information contributes to management understanding and decisions.
Ability to interpret profit and loss in insurance in order to make decisions that will effectively manage this.
Strong understanding of statistical methods, data management, data governance and technologies needed to enable data innovation.
Knowledge in methodologies pertaining to research, customer experience, business process improvement, governance and change management.
Knowledge of project management methodologies and techniques required to plan, manage and execute projects.
Ability to apply data and analytical information to drive business value as well as preparing and delivering effective presentations.
Ability to think strategically, identify problems/threats, analyze risks and assess outcomes related to potential solutions.
Ability to build effective internal working relationships and establish strategic external partnerships with customers, business partners, vendors and other stakeholders.
Leadership skill to lead and execute corporate change through influence, persuasion and consensus building.
Leadership skill to foster an environment which motivates and encourages employees to develop and perform in order to achieve organizational objectives.
Communication skills to provide technical advice or guidance to internal/external customers where expertise is required to negotiate with, influence and/or convince.
Skill to analyze data and identify trends, patterns and irregularities, as well as writing high-quality reports that are clear, concise and targeted to the audience.
Skill in managing multiple projects and operating budgets, as well as monitoring it within constrained timelines.
