As a Training Specialist, you develop and deliver effective internal and customer training programs that prepare team members to drive revenue through effective performance. In addition, you provide customers an exceptional experience across the Workers’ Compensation Underwriting (WCU) line of business.
Essential duties and responsibilities for this position include:
Conduct needs assessments across the WCU organization to determine opportunities for process or knowledge improvement through training, create master plan, and schedule for training development.
Consult with leaders to identify knowledge gaps and, using a structured instructional design model, determine training needs and recommend solutions. Direct leaders to alternative resources if training is not the most appropriate solution.
Establish training goals and develop curriculum plans, where applicable, to achieve training goals. Work with Senior Leadership to determine training priorities and resources available for training and create master schedule for development.
Identify appropriate training development resource – whether internal or vendor – or external program and recommend vendor where appropriate, managing to budget.
Design training programs using instructional design principles and best practices.
Based on training goals, audience, and available resources, determine the best delivery method to achieve learning results. Identify measurement(s) for training success.
Work with Subject Matter Experts, create content, learning exercises, measurement and reinforcement activities based on the delivery method and training goals established. Ensure the training content is interactive, engaging to audience and meets corporate standards for training.
Create instructor guides to document each training course using the corporate instructor guide template.
Work with instructors to ensure understanding of lesson plans to facilitate the best delivery experience for participants. May recommend instructors for specific training programs.
Ensure all materials are prepared in a format for the LMS.
Periodically review and update/revise training content to ensure training is current and relevant.
Coordinate the delivery of training.
Work with leaders, identify participants and schedule training using the Learning Management System (LMS).
Coordinate participant registration process. Ensure courses are full with participants. Seek opportunities to invite other departments who may benefit from cross-training where space is available.
Schedule rooms for in-person delivery, coordinate phone and web meeting resources for webinars or prepare materials for distribution via the LMS for self-managed courses.
Prepare participant materials for distribution and ensure delivery in accordance with timeline in instructor’s Guide.
Coordinate all aspects of training delivery including refreshments (where appropriate), technology, instructor materials and tools; audio and video, etc. on day(s) of training.
Conduct training programs appropriate for in-person delivery and technical/knowledge level ensuring participant engagement and satisfaction and high evaluation results.
Manage training communications and promotions for WCU audience.
Create promotional material to attract participants to training. Ensure widespread knowledge of training opportunities and work with leaders to solicit participation.
Communicate with participants and, where applicable, managers, regarding pre-work, training content and reinforcement activities.
Manage WCU training page on iPortal (intranet system).
Conduct training evaluations.
Establish evaluation methodology using Kirkpatrick’s Five Level model during the design phase of training.
Measure training in accordance with evaluation methodology and report results to leadership. Determine changes to training program based on evaluation results and ensure changes are implemented.
Track instructor performance and provide feedback and coaching to continually improve performance.
Manage WCU Training Library.
Coordinate with Human Resources to utilize LMS as repository for all WCU training materials and courses.
Convert current available training to LMS-compliant formats; identify training that can be automatically delivered using the LMS tools.
Desired educational background and experience:
Bachelor's degree (B.A.) and three plus years of actual training experience or equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. Educational background can include organizational development, business management, education, or training. Experience can include developing training programs, teaching adult learners, managing projects, coordinating logistics, writing training materials, and use of Microsoft products and learning management systems or databases. Insurance experience, specifically Workers’ Compensation is desirable, in addition to Human Resources, ASTD or similar training certifications.
