CONTRIBUTING TO THE CMPA The Finance department supports the CMPA’s mission and goals by safeguarding the Association’s assets and proper valuation of the Association’s liabilities. Safeguarding the Association’s assets is accomplished through accurate and timely recording and stewardship of financial transactions. Proper valuation of the Association’s liabilities is accomplished through detailed actuarial work following the Standards of Practice set by Canadian Institute of Actuaries. The Actuarial Team is mainly responsible for CMPA’s liability valuation and protection fee projection. The team develops proprietary applications and data structures, builds actuarial models and processes, supports financial auditing and provides insight for the Association’s capital and liability management.
The Actuarial Services team is growing and searching for an Actuarial Associate or Actuary to join this dynamic and collaborative team.
POSITION OVERVIEW Associate Actuary (A4) / Actuary (A5) As a key member of the Actuarial Team, the Associate Actuary / Actuary reports to the Chief Actuary and is responsible for developing, implementing and reporting on various actuarial projects including: year-end and mid-year liability valuation, occurrence year protection fee projection, Dynamic Capital Adequacy Testing, mid-to-long term balance sheet projection, insurance program assessment, supporting year-end external review and auditing activities, and participating in other tasks within the Association. The incumbent also provides advice and input for reporting of actuarial information to the department and Chief Actuary.
In addition, the Associate Actuary / Actuary is responsible for fostering partnership with the rest of the actuarial team by providing professional and timely support to ensure all projects are delivered on time with high quality. Assisted at times by the Actuary II, the Associate Actuary / Actuary assigns to and oversees Actuarial Analysts in the completion of actuarial work projects; projects requiring additional technical knowledge, experience and in-depth research will be handled jointly by the Associate Actuary / Actuary, and the Actuary II.
While mainly working on actuarial projects, the Associate Actuary / Actuary will interact with members within and outside of finance team, and is expected to cultivate good working relationships to facilitate the design and development of new process to support Finance function more efficiently.

Additional Salary Information: The Associate Actuary position is classified at a Level A4 – 2019 Range $90,918 to $118,193 and the Actuary position is classified at a Level A5 - Range $102,319 to $133,015
