Berkley Agribusiness is searching for an individual to fill the role of Actuarial Analyst and provide actuarial services, primarily in the ratemaking arena.
The primary purpose of this position will be to analyze business issues and propose quantitative solutions for Berkley Agribusiness, a provider of property and casualty insurance solutions for select commercial agribusiness across the United States. Berkley Agribusiness services customers nationwide in regional grain storage and marketing, grower-packer-shippers, and food and beverage distribution, among others.
Duties could include, but are not limited to:
development of pricing strategies and recommendations using large account pricing techniques, as well as more traditional actuarial ratemaking techniques
development of loss and loss expense forecasts in support of the annual planning process
monitoring and analysis of frequency, severity, and exposure trends
maintenance and enhancement of price monitoring processes and tools
building and maintenance of predictive models
completion of reserve analyses, including presentation of the results and making recommendations
The qualified candidate must possess knowledge of basic actuarial and statistical methods, including generalized linear models, used in the analysis of property casualty data or the proven ability to learn these methods. A bachelor’s degree in actuarial science or math-related field is strongly preferred.
The selected candidate will have a commitment to continuing education demonstrated by progression through the Casualty Actuarial Society exam program or other insurance professional designations.
The successful candidate will possess advanced Excel skills as well as knowledge of data acquisition tools including SQL, SAS, and Hyperion Essbase or the proven ability to learn these tools. A working knowledge of specialized actuarial software is highly desired including ReservePro, R, Emblem, MarketStance and MapInfo. Proven effective written and verbal communication skills are required as well as the ability to adapt to a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment. Experience in commercial lines insurance is a plus. Must be willing to travel as needed and be comfortable working closely with underwriters, loss control, agents and insureds.
